Heel Counter Preparation & Activation | Women’s Woven Shoe Manufacturing

Heel Counter Preparation Before Lasting – Structural Foundation of Stability

Before the upper is placed onto the last, the heel counter reinforcement must be carefully prepared. This stage defines rear-foot stability, posture control, and long-term durability.

Process Breakdown with Key Moments

00:00 – The counter stiffener is presented before activation. At this stage, the material is rigid and not yet formable.

00:07 – The stiffener is activated using a softening solution. This chemical process allows the counter material to adapt between the lining and the leather upper.

00:18 – The softened material is tested for flexibility and positioned for trimming.

00:32 – Through controlled testing, excess material is precisely trimmed with a knife to ensure accurate alignment inside the heel section.

00:49 – Fine shaving begins on the edges that will contact the foot. This prevents discomfort while maintaining structural rigidity at the back.

01:02 – Final refinement ensures balanced thickness distribution and smooth integration between lining and upper leather.

Why This Stage Matters

The heel counter — also known as the counter stiffener — is responsible for keeping the back of the shoe upright and stable. Improper trimming can cause heel slippage. Excess rigidity can create discomfort. Insufficient structure can compromise posture and durability.

Precision at this stage ensures that the shoe holds its silhouette while remaining comfortable for long-term wear.

All processes are completed fully in-house inside our footwear workshop.
