The Art of Artisanal Sandal Making: A Masterclass from Istanbul

In the heart of Istanbul’s shoemaking district, we combine centuries-old leather traditions with modern precision. Creating a pair of premium sandals is a meticulous journey that transforms raw materials into sophisticated footwear. Here is the professional step-by-step process of our artisanal production.

Handmade Suede Sandals

1. Design, Masking, and Stenciling

The process begins with a charcoal sketch on paper. To translate this 2D vision onto a 3D foot form, we cover the shoe last with professional masking tape and redraw the design. This tape is then meticulously transferred to cardboard to create the stencils (istampa) that will guide every cut.

2. Insole Engineering & Symmetry

Comfort is engineered, not accidental. We cut the insole to match the outsole perfectly, adding high-density padding and wrapping it in luxury leather lining. A critical step follows: the edges are sanded down for a flush fit, and precise contact points are marked to ensure the upper (saya) is attached with perfect symmetry.

3. The Hand-Lasting Process

After selecting and stitching the premium leather, we apply adhesive to the "saya" and the insole. Using specialized lasting pincers, we pull the leather tight over the last. This creates a permanent bond and a silhouette that will not sag over time.

4. Advanced Sole Bonding (Thermo-Rubber)

For our Thermo-Rubber soles, we use a special solvent to treat the surface, ensuring maximum adhesion. We apply heat-activated cement to both surfaces, use flash activation in our heat tunnels, and unify the pieces under high pressure using an industrial sole press.

5. The Final Set and Finish

We allow the sandals to cool completely while still on the last to lock in the shape. Once removed, the footwear is cleaned, polished, and subjected to a final quality control check before being shipped to our global partners.
