Woven Upper Repair Before Re-Lasting – Structural Correction in Real Production
In the previous stage, the woven leather upper began to separate under tension during lasting. This video documents the corrective phase inside a working footwear workshop.
Step-by-Step Structural Breakdown
00:00 – The previously separated woven section is shown. The structural failure point is visible at the front.
00:03 – The opened weave is carefully re-woven by hand. This restores surface continuity before tension is applied again.
00:06 – The upper is repositioned onto the last after structural correction.
00:09 – The section that will sit under the sole is stabilized using paper tape. This temporary reinforcement reduces stress concentration during re-lasting.
00:13 – Controlled tension is applied again. The stabilization allows pressure to distribute more evenly.
00:17 – The woven structure remains aligned under pressure, preventing further separation.
Why This Technique Matters
Woven leather behaves differently from solid leather. Its flexibility allows shaping — but also increases vulnerability to uneven stress.
By re-weaving and stabilizing the stressed area before re-lasting, structural integrity is restored without compromising material integrity.
Real footwear manufacturing means correcting structural issues properly — not hiding them.
